An Informed Decision
The FAQ section provides answers to the most commonly asked questions I receive about Children's Speech Therapy Services. I understand that finding the right speech therapist for your child can be overwhelming, so I have compiled a list of FAQs to help you make an informed decision.
-
How do I know if my child needs speech or language therapy? We will talk about your needs during a consultation phone call and you can look at the American Speech Hearing Association's new milestones guidelines by clicking the button below.
-
Do you offer screenings?Children’s Speech Therapy Services is available to provide screenings to children at daycare centers, private schools, preschool programs, or your home. Screenings are abbreviated evaluations to determine if a child could benefit from further evaluation or if a child’s level of performance is age-appropriate and no further evaluation is needed. If your child is found to have mild difficulties yet a full evaluation is not recommended, home programming ideas will be discussed so parents can facilitate these skills at home. If an area of concern is identified, a full evaluation will be recommended.
-
What if my child is receiving therapy at a public school? Can he/she still work with you?Yes, we can all work together and collaborate on how to best work with your child and be the most successful. I may request testing records from the school and I can provide therapy updates to the school at your request. Depending upon your therapy needs, I may work on the same issues as the school clinician or I may work on something different. Also, I can supplement speech-language therapy services during the summer to prevent any regression in speech-language progress.
-
The services at the school are free. Why would I want to see a private therapist?Schools are only required to provide services that they deem to be educationally necessary. This may mean that some speech and language issues will not be addressed by the school. Because Children’s Speech Therapy Services is a private entity, I can provide a more robust level of service to my clientele. Also, while most therapy sessions in institutional settings are conducted in groups (sometimes with not all clients working on the same goals), my sessions are one-to-one.
-
Do you work with children with autism?Yes. I believe that a collaborative and multidisciplinary effort between the child, his/her family, and his/her other support networks helps to achieve results and reach the highest level of success. I have received extensive continuing education and ongoing training opportunities related to autism. Treatment of children with autism and working closely with their families is one of my specialties.
-
Do you participate with insurance? Are you in-network?Children's Speech Therapy is an out of network provider. Contact your insurance company to inquire about reimbursement. You will be provided with diagnostic and procedure codes. You will receive a detailed superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
-
Where are you located?I'm a mobile speech therapy provider! I will go to your child's naturalistic setting (in-home, in-school) or teletherapy, if appropriate. I understand, as a parent myself, that one more weekly drive might be a challenge. Since I will go to your child, it's one less "schlep" for you!
-
I am ready to get started! What is my next step?I recommend that you set up an initial phone consultation prior to initiating therapy. This phone call will allow me to gather information about your goals for therapy and will give you an opportunity to ask questions about my program. Once that is completed and both parties agree to pursue therapy, we will then schedule a time for me to come to your house, school, or daycare.
